The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) is a state institution established under section 181(1)(e) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996. It supports constitutional democracy. The AGSA’s main functions are outlined in section 188 of the Constitution and section 4 of the Public Audit Act.

Conduct audits effectively and efficiently, following PFMA and MFMA timelines, ISA standards, and AGSA policies and procedures.
Roles & Responsibilities
Product
Conduct audits through three phases: Planning, Execution, and Audit Conclusion.
- Plan the audit by participating in defining objectives and scope, assessing risks from source documents, compiling the audit plan, and conducting walkthroughs with relevant role players.
- Perform fieldwork according to policies and procedures.
- Execute tests to check compliance with policies, procedures, standards, and specifications; adequacy of goals; reliability of information; efficiency and effectiveness of operations; and safeguarding of assets.
- Generate audit findings, submit them to the Line Manager for input and review, and make necessary changes.
- Communicate progress or obstacles to the Line Manager and Senior Manager during the audit.
- Participate in meetings to discuss accepted recommendations, implementation timelines, rejected recommendations, internal actions, and target dates for review.
- Conduct audits following internal processes, policies, and procedures, within the allocated timeframe.
- Promote and manage sound internal controls within the business unit.
HR Admin
- Improve your skills through personal development as per your Personal Development Plan (PDP).
- Take part in learning and development programs.
- Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programs.
- Stay updated on the latest developments at the AGSA.
- Participate in transformational initiatives, including change, organizational culture, CSI, and diversity.
Financial Management
- Support the Manager in delivering high-quality, accurate, and cost-effective audits.
- Manage projects efficiently in terms of time, cost, and quality.
- Provide input into audit planning, including budget requirements.
Organisational Reporting
- Follow budget allocations for hours and expenses.
- Get approval from the Line Manager for any unbudgeted expenses.
- Meet your recoverability targets.
Ad-hoc Duties
- Handle other projects, tasks, and assignments as required.
Skills, Experience & Education
Formal Education
- B Degree in Auditing, Computer Science, or Informatics.
Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of Auditing.
- In-depth knowledge and skills in Informatics.
Experience
- At least 3 years of Information Systems auditing experience.
- Experience in ERP environments (such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, and PeopleSoft), cyber security, and CAATs/Data analytics is an advantage.
