Requirements

• Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
• Grade 1: No experience required after registration as a Medical Practitioner with HPCSA for South African qualified employees. 1 year of relevant experience after registration with a recognized foreign Health Professional Council for foreign qualified employees who do not need to perform Community Service in South Africa.
• Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA for South African qualified employees. A minimum of 6 years relevant experience after registration with a recognized foreign Health Professional Council for foreign qualified employees who do not need to perform Community Service in South Africa.
• Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA for South African qualified employees. A minimum of 11 years relevant experience after registration with a recognized foreign Health Professional Council for foreign qualified employees.
• Knowledge of general medical and surgical conditions at hospital and primary healthcare (PHC) levels. Knowledge of South African guidelines for TB and HIV care, including pediatric HIV and drug-resistant TB.
• Ability to provide comprehensive, evidence-based, patient-centered clinical services in District Health Services. Computer literacy in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook. Good interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills. Experience in primary healthcare. Willingness to conduct outreach services to clinics in the Garden Route and Central Karoo Districts and guide healthcare colleagues in managing complex PHC cases.

• The pool of applications will be considered for similar vacancies in the Garden Route District for three months from the advert date, if the job title, core functions, requirements, and salary level match.

Duties

• Provide quality outpatient care to patients in primary healthcare and hospital facilities in the Garden Route and Central Karoo Districts.
• Offer outreach and support services to PHC facilities in these districts.
• Participate in skills transfer, training, and academic opportunities relevant to the role.
• Contribute to clinical governance in Garden Route and Central Karoo District facilities as needed.
• Handle efficient administration for clinical, non-clinical, and medico-legal matters.
• Ensure cost-efficient use of laboratory services, blood, medicine, consumables, and equipment.

Other Requirements

• Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
• Valid driver’s license (Code B/EB). Willingness to travel throughout the Garden Route and Central Karoo Districts.

Salary

• Grade 1: R482 per hour
• Grade 2: R550 per hour
• Grade 3: R636 per hour
