Operational Manager Nursing Grade 1 (General Unit) (Mixed Ward)

Key Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registering as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) in General Nursing.
  • Basic R425 qualification, such as a degree or diploma in nursing and midwifery, or an equivalent that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse and Midwife / Accoucheur.
  • Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse and Midwife / Accoucheur.
  • Flexibility to perform official after-hour and weekend standby duties for the hospital. Willingness to work night shifts and act on behalf of the supervisor.
  • Managerial and leadership skills, including integrity, innovation, vision, self-awareness, confidence, delegation, accountability, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, staff empowerment, and development. Human resource and financial management, including computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Extensive knowledge in general nursing, infection prevention and control, and quality assurance.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation on labour relationships, nursing practices, legal and ethical nursing standards, public sector policies, and protocols.

Main Duties

  • Supervise and lead the provision of effective and efficient patient care through adequate nursing within the functional business unit. Coordinate and monitor the implementation of nursing care plans and evaluate them.
  • Provide relevant health information to patients to help achieve optimal healthcare and rehabilitation.
  • Maintain constructive working relationships with nursing teams and stakeholders, including inter-professional, inter-sectoral, and multi-disciplinary teamwork.
  • Participate in analyzing, formulating, and implementing nursing guidelines, practices, standards, and procedures.
  • Manage and monitor the proper use of human, financial, and physical resources, including information management.

Salary and Benefits

Grade 1: R 549 192 – R 629 121 per annum. This includes annual salary plus service benefits such as a 13th cheque, employer’s contribution to the pension fund, housing, and medical aid allowance.
