Requirements
- Basic R425 qualification (diploma or degree in nursing) or equivalent that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse and midwife.
- A post-basic nursing qualification of at least 1 year, accredited by SANC in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science: Operating Theatre Technique, allowing registration with SANC.
- Good communication skills, strong interpersonal relationships, leadership, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Practical knowledge and experience in the operating theatre.
- Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Western Cape Department of Health.
- For Grade 1: At least 4 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
- For Grade 2: At least 14 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
- At least 10 years of the above experience must be in Operating Theatre after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification in the specialty.
- Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse and midwife, with proof of current annual registration.
- Willingness to work shifts, including day and night duties, weekends, and public holidays.
- Ability to assist in other departments as needed.

Duties
- Provide safe and comprehensive care to patients in the theatre and day ward.
- Deliver optimal, holistic specialized care according to professional and legal standards.
- Follow infection prevention and control (IPC) practices in the theatre.
- Maintain accurate records for statistical and legal purposes.
- Support and supervise students and staff in the theatre.
- Use resources effectively.
Salary
Grade 1: R 476,367 per annum
Grade 2: R 583,989 per annum
Plus annual benefits: 13th cheque, employer’s pension fund contribution, housing, and medical aid allowance.
