Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a reliable Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Foreshore store. In this role, you will help provide pharmaceutical care by addressing patients’ medicine needs and ensuring these needs are met responsibly.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience working with Unisolv
  • Computer literate, including MS Office
  • Good numerical skills
  • Strong command of English and a second language
  • Willing to work retail hours

Advantageous

  • Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
  • Third additional language
  • Knowledge of or experience with SAP and E-Scripting
  • Understanding of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist in compounding, preparing, or manipulating non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances using approved formulas and procedures
  • Support the manufacturing of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances under a pharmacist’s guidance
  • Aid in repackaging medicines
  • Manage the distribution and control of stock for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Order medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6 as instructed by an authorized person
  • Read and prepare prescriptions; select, handle, or compound medicines; label and supply them in suitable containers after a pharmacist reviews the prescription
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within SAPC legal requirements
  • Enter script details correctly and verify patient information on the system
  • Pick, pack, label, and check medications accurately; know common dosages and key drug interactions
  • Give clear instructions to patients on how to use the supplied medicine
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures and dispensing requirements
  • Ensure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
  • Assist and advise patients at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
  • Follow up on script tracking reports and patient appointments as needed
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Provide health promotion information to individuals
  • Handle paperwork for accurate medical aid claims
  • Fix errors on scripts rejected by medical aids
  • Secure authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
  • Update and maintain customer profiles on the system
  • Merge profiles locally and notify the central system for merging
  • Address any messages on customer profiles appropriately
  • Report low stock, out-of-stock items, and stock errors to the dispensary manager
  • Receive and store dispensary stock following Dis-Chem’s procedures, using FEFO (First Expired, First Out)
  • Support bi-annual stock takes
  • Manage stock, cash, and assets effectively
