Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic) Grade 1 to 3

Key Requirements

  • Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic) or Pharmacist Assistant (Post-Basic) Institutional.
  • Good understanding of pharmacy practices in hospitals and clinics. Experience handling pharmaceutical supplies, including cold chain management.
  • Knowledge of drug supply management, good pharmacy practice, and stock control.
  • Attention to detail and strong work ethic. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Ability to use dispensing and stock control software.
  • Physical ability to handle heavy items in storage areas.
  • Grade 1: No experience required after SAPC registration.
  • Grade 2: At least 5 years of experience as a Pharmacist Assistant after SAPC registration.
  • Grade 3: At least 13 years of experience as a Pharmacist Assistant after SAPC registration.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code B/EB) and willingness to travel in the sub-district.
  • Ability to work overtime, after hours, and at other clinics if needed.

Main Duties

  • Work under pharmacist supervision in hospitals and clinics.
  • Manage drug supplies: order, receive, store, rotate stock, handle expiries, and control temperatures.
  • Dispense and issue medications according to standard guidelines and the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness Pharmaceutical Code List.
  • Handle medications from tertiary institutions and the Chronic Dispensing Unit.
  • Support the pharmacy team in the Kannaland Sub-District.
  • Provide high-quality services and meet quality standards.

Salary

Grade 1: R 264 750 – R 298 482 per annum
Grade 2: R 306 411 – R 324 117 per annum
Grade 3: R 330 540 – R 375 381 per annum
Plus annual benefits: 13th cheque, pension fund contribution, housing and medical aid allowances.

Additional Notes

  • No fees are required to apply. Candidates will undergo written, practical, and oral assessments.
  • Candidates without registration may apply if they provide proof of application and payment to SAPC by the interview date. This applies only to first-time registrations.
