Environmental Health Practitioner

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 plus National Diploma in Environmental Health (NQF level 6)
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Independent Practitioner
- Completion of Compulsory Community Service in Environmental Health
- 1–3 years’ experience, including Completion of Compulsory Community Service in Environmental Health
- Valid driver’s license
Primary Function
Ensure that Municipal Health Services, as defined in the National Health Act, are implemented. This involves determining community profiles and needs through coordination, investigation, inspection, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and direct compliance enforcement related to environmental health. Provide information, educate, and advise on practices that harm the environment. Implement measures to prevent and control risks to ensure a clean and healthy environment that supports a better quality of life in the City of Johannesburg.

- Use specialized knowledge to ensure Municipal Health Services are delivered as per the National Health Act
- Handle all administrative responsibilities and functions related to the position
- Take responsibility for council-provided assets and tools
- Communicate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders
- Enforce compliance with all Environmental Health Activities and take law enforcement actions for non-compliance
- Ensure all financial matters comply with the MFMA and other legislation
