Job Description

Frogfoot Networks is looking for a Maintenance Technical Assistant to join the Maintenance Department.

Purpose of the Role

This role is ideal for someone who likes helping Fibre Technicians with network maintenance and keeping the fibre network running smoothly. You will help maintain clean and safe work sites, keep tools and equipment in good condition, assist with fibre installations and testing, and support preventative and reactive maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Help the Fibre Technician with network maintenance, including preventative and reactive work.
• Keep work areas clean and organized at sites like manholes.
• Ensure tools, equipment, and the maintenance vehicle are clean, safe, and working well.
• Manage and organize cables on slack brackets.
• Assist with documentation, labeling, and record-keeping.
• Perform OTDR monitoring, report findings, and save test traces correctly.
• Follow all safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) policies and procedures.
• Keep the vehicle file up to date and report any defects or damage.
• Support site reinstatements, fibre installations, cable work, and other field tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

What You Need

To do well in this role, you should have:

• Grade 12 (Matric) preferred.
• CFOT certification is a plus.
• At least 12 months’ experience in fibre, maintenance, or civil works.

Technical Knowledge

• Civil works.
• Fibre installations.
• Fibre testing.
• Cable installations.
• Windows operating systems.
• Fibre duct and cable installation.
• Basics of splicing and fibre testing.
• Installing ONTs and routers.

Working Conditions

• Work in the field.
• May involve long or irregular hours when needed.
• Work with internal teams and external contacts.
• Follow instructions, keep records, and capture information accurately.
• Handle customer interactions professionally, even in tough situations.
• Follow safety, compliance, and procedure standards.
