Purpose of the Role
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Assistant Retail Store Manager to lead our team and help our Econofoods store succeed. The right person will have a strong history of meeting sales goals, providing great customer service, and handling store operations well.
You will focus on reducing risks and stock losses while keeping the store to the highest standards to reach business targets. As Assistant Store Manager, you will handle all daily operations and guide the team to meet and surpass our goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive sales and promote them by delivering world-class customer service.
- Make sure excellent customer service standards are always upheld.
- Keep the store looking great by following company merchandising rules, promoting stock, managing inventory, and displaying products to make them easy to find and properly priced.
- Help with receiving stock, counting it, checking expiry dates, and ensuring stock is in good condition.
- Hire, train, and manage a strong team while supporting our Ho Hola company culture.
- Handle cash matters, like setting up daily floats, banking, and helping cashiers when needed.
- Manage the team by training, coaching, and checking their performance.
- Follow all health and safety rules. Ensure hygiene, food quality, and safety standards are met.
- Review store sales data and find ways to grow and improve.
- Oversee store operations, including opening and closing, and security.
- Build and keep good relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent. A higher qualification is a plus.
- 3-5 years of experience as a retail store manager or assistant manager, ideally in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) retail, with team leadership.
- Proven success in hitting sales targets and giving excellent customer service.
- Understanding of retail operations, like inventory control, merchandising, and store processes.
- Valid driver’s license, and preferably your own vehicle.

- Great communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in English (spoken and written).

- Skill in analyzing sales data and market trends to make smart decisions.
- Good at planning, organizing, controlling, and solving problems.
- Service-focused, confident, handles stress well, and has business sense.
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Accurate with attention to detail.
