Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • A three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma with majors in Accounting, Economics, or Finance. This should include Risk Management, Auditing, or an equivalent qualification.
  • The intern must sign an internship agreement in addition to the employment contract.
  • This agreement ensures full commitment to the programme, including participation in educational and workplace assignments, and following all policies and procedures.
  • Candidates must be between 21 and 35 years old.

The Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP) is a structured professional training and work experience programme. It aims to provide high-quality training and practical exposure in all aspects of a Municipal Budget and Treasury Office. This is governed by the Municipal Finance Management Act (Act 56 of 2003) and related reforms.

  • The programme builds on the skills and competencies gained during university training.
  • It includes a logical sequence of training that leads, where appropriate, to credits or a qualification in Municipal Finance Management.
  • This aligns with the Municipal Minimum Competency Regulations (Gazette 29967 of June 2007).
