Job Purpose

To provide accounting support by coordinating and managing accounting functions, and conducting proper account reconciliations. This ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting practices at SARS.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification and Experience Required

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Accounting AND 5-7 years’ experience in a finance, accounting, or similar financial environment, of which 2-3 years at a technically skilled level resolving financial and accounting queries and generating accounting reports.

Alternative

  • Senior Certificate (NQF 4) AND 10 years financial related experience in a finance, accounting, or similar financial environment, of which 2-3 years at a technically skilled level resolving financial and accounting queries and generating accounting reports.

Note: The alternative qualifications and experience refer to the internal minimum requirements (internal staff of SARS).

Job Outputs

Process

  • Ensure accurate communication to relevant SARS offices on discrepancies and errors, and advise on adjustments to correct them.
  • Develop and maintain regular reports using the applicable SARS accounting system.
  • Provide specialist input by investigating opportunities within the product process, including risk concerns.
  • Maintain accounts by identifying, verifying, and recording financial transactions.
  • Monitor, verify, and review outstanding information to pass relevant transactions according to set standards, ensuring accuracy and preventing fraudulent activities.
  • Accumulate information to review work progress, providing input for reporting, decision-making, and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Apply practical and applied knowledge to identify trends and potential risks using methods, systems, and procedures.
  • Communicate situational interpretations and judgments on work outputs and queries in your area of specialization.
  • Apply policies, practices, standards, procedures, and legislation correctly in delivering work outputs.
  • Draw on your knowledge and experience to diagnose symptoms, causes, and effects to solve emerging problems.
  • Initiate process and procedural changes, implement them, and provide guidelines and support for new requirements.
