Requirements
- Senior Certificate (Grade 12) plus a Diploma or Degree in Nursing (R425) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- A post-basic qualification in Oncology Nursing Science, lasting at least one year and accredited by SANC.
- A Diploma or Degree in Nursing Management.
- A minimum of 10 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC, including general nursing.
- At least 6 years of the above experience must be in oncology nursing after obtaining the post-basic qualification.
- At least 3 years of the above experience must be at a management level.
- Knowledge of nursing care processes, procedures, and relevant laws, such as the Nursing Act, Health Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Patients’ Rights Charter.
- Understanding of Batho Pele Principles.
- Skills in leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, discipline, grievances, public relations, negotiation, conflict handling, and counseling.
- Knowledge of financial and budget processes for resources under management.
- Insight into public health strategies, nursing standards, procedures, and policies.
- Basic computer skills.
Duties
- Provide effective management and leadership in the Oncology Unit.
- Communicate well with patients, supervisors, other health professionals, and junior staff, including writing reports when needed.
- Manage, use, and supervise all resources effectively.
- Show concern for patients by promoting, advocating, and ensuring proper treatment and care.
- Follow Batho Pele principles in the unit.
- Maintain clinical skills and ensure scientific nursing principles and clinical governance are applied.
- Implement guidelines and show understanding of nursing laws, ethics, and practices.
- Handle discipline, grievances, and labor issues according to procedures.
- Provide supportive supervision, evaluate staff performance, create training programs, and support the development of staff and nursing students.
- Monitor disaster management, National Core Standards, and Ideal Hospital Framework, and assess their impact on services.
- Coordinate and join health promotion activities, and monitor and evaluate data.
- Use basic computer skills to improve service delivery.
