The Overberg District Municipality governs the Overberg region in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It includes four local municipalities and major towns such as Grabouw, Caledon, Hermanus, Bredasdorp, and Swellendam.

Divisional Commander (1 Position in Grabouw, 1 Position in Bredasdorp)

Requirements:

  • SAESI Diploma in Fire Services Technology or IFE Graduate Diploma in Fire Engineering, or an equivalent service-related qualification.
  • At least 10 years of operational experience in all major fire service functions, with proven skills in wildland firefighting leadership in rural areas.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience at Platoon Commander or Station Commander level.
  • Advantages include: Pump Operator/Aerial Appliance qualification, Fire Prevention course, Fire Service Instructor 1, High Angle Rescue 1, Hazmat Awareness, Firefighter II, First Aid Level 3, and Safety Management (SAMTRAC) or similar.
  • Valid Code C1 driver’s license and computer literacy in MS Office.
  • Meet medical and physical fitness standards.
  • Literate in at least two of the three official Western Cape languages.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all firefighting and rescue operations in a specific district area.
  • Handle supervisory tasks for firefighting and emergency rescue services, including office administration.
