Requirements

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus a Basic R425 qualification (such as a Degree/Diploma in Nursing) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse for 2025.
  • A post-basic nursing qualification with at least 1 year of training, accredited by SANC under Government Notice R212 in Trauma & Emergency Nursing Science.
  • A minimum of 4 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registering as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Good supervisory and teaching skills. Knowledge of relevant laws, ethical nursing practices, and legislation.

Duties

  • Provide clinical nursing care in the Trauma & Emergency Unit according to the scope of practice. Manage resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Deliver quality patient care and follow all norms and standards. Take part in quality improvement programs.
  • Supervise and apply patient care standards. Follow nursing, labor, and health care laws.
  • Build good working relationships with nurses and other team members. Ensure infection prevention and control policies are followed.
  • Keep equipment working and ready for use at all times. Prioritize and coordinate patient care based on protocols.
  • Plan and organize your work and that of support staff to ensure proper nursing care. Participate in staff development and performance reviews.
  • Report any patient safety issues, challenges, or problems in the unit. Work well with people from diverse backgrounds, including different intellectual, cultural, racial, or religious views.
  • Follow Batho Pele Principles and the Patient’s Rights Charter.
