Requirements

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus Basic R425 qualification (Degree/Diploma in Nursing or equivalent that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse in 2025).
  • A post-basic nursing qualification of at least 1 year, accredited with SANC in terms of Government Notice R212 in Operating Theatre Nursing Science.
  • A minimum of 4 years appropriate experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Good supervisory and teaching skills. Understanding of relevant legislation and ethical nursing practices.

Duties

  • Provide clinical nursing practice in line with the scope of Operating Theatre Nursing. Manage resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Deliver quality patient care, follow norms and standards, and participate in quality improvement programs.
  • Supervise and implement patient care standards. Practice nursing in accordance with statutory laws for nursing, labor, and health care.
  • Build positive working relationships with nurses and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control policies.
  • Keep equipment functional and ready at all times. Prioritize and coordinate patient management activities according to protocols.
  • Plan and organize work for yourself and support staff to ensure proper nursing care. Participate in staff development and performance management.
  • Report patient safety incidents, challenges, and deficiencies in the unit. Work cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Adhere to Batho Pele Principles and the Patient’s Rights Charter.
