Assistant Category Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Category Manager in our Customer Marketing Team, supporting the Pies category. This role is based in Westville and reports to the Category Manager.
The Assistant Category Manager will support the Category Manager in driving category growth. Key duties include administering and managing projects, analytics, and go-to-market initiatives to meet category volume and profit goals. You will also assist in gathering and analyzing data on customer, category, shopper, and channel performance, trends, and competitive intelligence. Additionally, you will work with internal stakeholders to ensure excellent execution across demand functions.
Minimum Requirements
- A Degree or Diploma in Marketing or Business Management (3 years).
- 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in a similar environment.
- Valid Code EB driver’s license.
Duties & Responsibilities
Category Planning
- Support the Category Manager in the annual business planning process through data analysis, insights, and identifying growth opportunities.
- Help develop proposals and recommendations for customers on category management projects, including Net Revenue Management (NRM) initiatives.
- Work with the operations team to ensure smooth implementation of initiatives.
Category Management
- Support measuring and reviewing category performance, margins, and customer profitability.
- Analyze shelf health, pricing data, product availability, and visibility. Work with the Category Manager to turn feedback into actionable plans for the customer team.
- Execute brand standards (brand DNA) and support their development.
- Conduct periodic reviews of planograms and ranging to maximize shelf efficiency.
- Continuously monitor the competitor landscape.
- Support preparation and analysis of category reviews for customers, including assortment analysis, category performance, and ranging.
Innovation & Shopper Support
- Assist the Category Manager in developing new product launch plans.
- Support the preparation of category stories and trade presentations.
- Execute new product launch plans, including tracking.
- Ensure all marketing materials align with brand guidelines across our brands.
- Build and deliver ongoing digital shopper communications to support conversion.
- Ensure critical customer information is available to the customer team.
Information Analysis, Management, and Reporting
- Analyze and interpret key data to provide feedback on category performance and drive actions.
- Assist in compiling business reports, presentations, and category performance analysis (including causes of deviations), focusing on NRM practices.
Financial Management
- Support managing customer marketing spend budgets within agreed limits and ensure initiatives are commercially sound.
- Execute specific elements of the NRM Program, such as promo analysis, to meet agreed targets.
- Understand key drivers of profitability and revenue growth to help achieve targets.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Business growth targets – volume, revenue, and profit.
- Execution of customer plans and specific project KPIs.
- Digital and social metrics and measurements.
- Shelf space and product availability.
- Accuracy of reporting.
