Artisan Electrician (2 Positions)

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent N4 certificate
  • 3 years relevant experience
  • Valid Electrician Trade Certificate
  • High Voltage Regulations (ORHVS Regs)
  • First Aid Level 1
  • Code C1 Public Driving Licence
  • PRDP – Professional driving permit
  • Physically healthy and fit
  • Able to work at heights
  • Exposure to SSEG, inverters, UPS and solar plant environment (advantageous)
  • Proficiency in English and at least one other official language of the Western Cape Province

Key Performance Areas:

  • Perform High Voltage switching on the electrical system as per ORHVS
  • Coordinate activities and sequences for troubleshooting, fault finding and repairing medium/low voltage reticulation and electrical systems
  • Maintain the functionality of medium/low voltage electrical reticulation systems
  • Maintain, construct, install and commission the electrical network in the Knysna municipal area, including 11 kV and 22 kV overhead lines, underground cables, switchgear, mini-substations, ring main units (RMU), transformers, 400V/230V distribution kiosks, allied work, and 11 kV and 22 kV cable joints using heat shrink
  • Maintain streetlights and high mast lights
  • Maintain traffic lights
  • Install new domestic service connections and pre-paid meter installations and conversions
  • Conduct inspections of electrical installations and report findings according to guidelines
  • Responsible for on-site Occupational Health and Safety and supervision of staff
  • Attend to customer electrical faults and complaints
  • Perform overtime and standby duties on a roster basis
  • Operate heavy or specialised vehicles and equipment (such as crane trucks) during electrical installation, repair and maintenance activities
  • Adhere to all safety and health practices and promote good housekeeping
