Data Analyst II (Data Analytics Jobs

Job Purpose

To ensure effective management of the information life cycle or value chain. This includes identifying, analyzing, and developing information assets, as well as assessing business information needs.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification and Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related Information Management and Reporting field. Plus 5-7 years’ experience in a similar or related Data Analytics environment, including 2-3 years at a technically skilled level.

Alternative

• Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and 10 years related experience in a similar or related Data Analytics environment, including 2-3 years at a technically skilled level.

Minimum Functional Requirements

• Experience in Data Engineering, Business Data Intelligence, or Data Science. Intermediate practical expertise in data processes, cleaning, analysis, reporting, data models, and database design and testing.
• Knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (such as SQL), databases (SQL), and programming (SQL, R, Python).
• Intermediate knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, R).
• Intermediate knowledge of data warehouses.
• Proficiency in Basic Data Migration, Basic Data Visualization, Business Intelligence Methodologies, and Database Knowledge.
• Intermediate Programming Skills (SQL, Python, R).
• Microsoft skills (proficient): Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Job Outputs

Process

• Communicate analysis results and findings using medium-to-complex data visualization techniques with internal and external customers.
• Provide specialist input by investigating opportunities within the product process, including risk concerns.
• Design, develop, and test medium-to-complex data analytics solutions such as reports, dashboards, analyses, extracts, and models.
• Maintain and improve existing data analytics solutions to ensure availability.
• Acquire data from primary or secondary sources and maintain databases, using knowledge of data extraction, transformation, and business modeling.
• Apply data quality principles to support correct decisions, accurate analysis, and effective strategies.
• Assist in filtering and cleaning imported data by reviewing reports and performance indicators to fix problems.
• Identify, analyze, and interpret trends and patterns in medium-to-complex datasets based on findings.
• Perform intermediate business analysis using techniques like statistical analysis, explanatory and predictive modeling, and data mining.
• Research best practices and help develop solutions and recommendations for current business operations.
• Accumulate information to review work progress, support reporting, decision-making, and identify improvements.
• Apply practical knowledge to identify trends and potential risks using methods, systems, and procedures.
• Communicate situational interpretations and judgments on work outputs and queries in your area of specialization.
• Apply policies, practices, standards, procedures, and legislation correctly in work delivery.
• Draw on knowledge and experience to diagnose symptoms, causes, and effects to solve emerging problems.
• Initiate process and procedural changes, implement them, and provide guidelines and support for new requirements.
• Plan value-added process improvements, initiatives, and services to meet operational strategy and objectives.
• Provide specialist input by investigating opportunities for operational, process, product, and risk optimization.
