Requirements:

  • Matric plus Engineering Diploma (S4) or National Certificate (N6) in areas related to electricity/energy or the built environment.
  • Must have a valid South African ID.

Competencies:

Knowledge

  • Must be willing to sign an Internship/Graduate Programme agreement/contract. A Project Management Certificate is an added advantage.
  • Computer literacy (basic MS Office: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency technologies.
  • Understanding of building energy efficiency, including lighting, HVAC, water heating, and building management systems.
  • Understanding of energy efficiency in public lighting (high mast lights, street lights, and traffic lights).
  • Understanding of water/wastewater treatment plant operations and energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Understanding of small-scale embedded generation technologies for buildings.

Roles and Responsibilities for Electrical Interns:

  • Support the management of the energy efficiency project database, including cataloguing all potential projects from concept to feasibility stages.
  • Assist with data gathering and analysis for priority energy efficiency projects.
  • Provide support to the Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management (EEDSM) programme, including project monitoring.
  • Prepare briefing reports on energy efficiency.
  • Help with coordination and logistics for events and workshops.
  • Conduct and support activities as required.
