Job Description:

  • Help create a culture of zero harm by following all health, safety, environmental, and security rules. Apply these to your work area and tasks.
  • Handle winder control and electrical systems. This includes compressor control and electrical systems, shaft and shaft station systems. Also, update electrical documents like drawings, equipment databases, and datasheets. Perform switching and preventative maintenance on medium voltage (MV) equipment according to policies and procedures.
  • Use good judgment to decide whether to repair, replace, or upgrade components.
  • Follow planned maintenance schedules. Keep records for all winder, electrical equipment, and installations in your area.
  • Carry out all tasks as per instructions, procedures, and engineering needs.

This role is in the VUP Engineering department at a CL level. It reports to the Senior Electrical Foreman.

Qualifications:

Formal qualifications:

  • Grade 12 / N3 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification with Mathematics and Physical Science
  • Trade Certificate: Electrician
  • MQA – Medium Voltage (MV) and winder competent

Role-specific knowledge:

  • 5 years of continuous experience in electrical maintenance. At least 3 years must be in winder and shaft-related work.
  • Medium Voltage (MV) and Winder competent
  • Experience with ACS 6000 or similar drive systems is preferred
  • Experience with Safety Integrity Level (SIL) rated installations is preferred
  • Good knowledge of safety, health, and environmental laws and standards for your field
  • Skills to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical systems and major equipment in your area
  • Note: Successful candidates must undergo training on the winder system at the mine.
  • Valid EB / Code 8 Driver’s License
  • Computer literacy – MS Office Suite
  • Be ready to work shifts, do standby duties, callouts, and overtime
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Obtain a Medical Certificate of Fitness to work underground, including passing Heat Tolerance Screening (HTS)
  • The position depends on completing the company’s pre-employment checks, such as qualification verification, psychometric assessments, and a clear security clearance
