Job Purpose
To conduct investigations in digital and forensic fields to detect, collect, secure, preserve, analyze, and report on digital evidence related to complex tax and customs risks. This work focuses on syndicated tax and customs offenses and must hold up under legal scrutiny.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma in Digital Forensics or Computer Science (NQF 7) and 5-7 years of digital forensic experience, including 2-3 years at a technically skilled level.
OR
- Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and 10 years of digital forensic experience, including 2-3 years at a technically skilled level.
Additional Technical Competencies
- Collection and preservation of evidence, including the chain of custody (Investigations).
- Applied knowledge of adjective law (with supervision). This covers how legal rules are enforced, such as obtaining financial information for tax liability, penalties for non-compliance, and conducting criminal investigations.
- Handling confidential information, including sensitive data that could harm national security, international relations, or cause financial loss (e.g., taxpayer information).
- Interviewing and interrogation skills (Investigations).
- Investigative reporting.
- Testifying in formal and criminal proceedings.
