Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies seeks a qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant for the Farramere store. In this role, you will help provide pharmaceutical care by addressing patients’ medicine needs and ensuring these needs are met responsibly.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience working with Unisolv
  • Computer literate in MS Office
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Good command of English and a second language
  • Willing to work retail hours

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
  • A third additional language
  • Knowledge or experience with SAP and E-Scripting
  • Understanding of drugs, family planning, and complementary medicine

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help sell Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist in compounding, preparing, or manipulating non-sterile medicines or substances using approved formulas and procedures
  • Support manufacturing of non-sterile medicines or substances under a pharmacist’s guidance
  • Help repackage medicines
  • Manage distribution and control of stock for Schedules 1 to 5 medicines or substances
  • Assist in ordering medicines and substances up to Schedule 6 as instructed by authorized persons
  • Read and prepare prescriptions, select and compound medicines, label and supply them after a pharmacist’s review
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act professionally within SAPC guidelines
  • Enter script details correctly and verify patient information on the system
  • Pick, pack, label, and check medication accurately, knowing common dosages and drug interactions
  • Give clear instructions to patients on medicine use
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures for claims and dispensing
  • Ensure all medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
  • Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
  • Follow up on script tracking and patient appointments as requested
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Provide health promotion information to individuals
  • Process paperwork for accurate medical aid claims
  • Fix errors on rejected scripts
  • Secure authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications
  • Maintain customer profiles on the system
  • Merge profiles locally and notify for central merging
  • Act on any messages in customer profiles
  • Report low stock, out-of-stock items, or errors to the dispensary manager
  • Receive and merchandise dispensary stock per Dis-Chem’s procedures, using FEFO (First Expired, First Out)
  • Support bi-annual stock takes
  • Control stock, cash, and assets
