Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine

Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine is an underground mechanized mine that produces high-quality chromite for export. The chromite is extracted from underground mining areas at North and South Shafts. Our mine is located in Limpopo Province, about 60 kilometers from Lydenburg and 40 kilometers from Burgersfort, and is a world-class producer of Chrome Ore.

TMM Artisan (Diesel Mechanic/Earthmoving Mechanic/Fitter) (C2)

The successful applicant will report to the Chargehand or nominee.

Minimum Educational Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Standard 10 with Maths or Maths Literacy.
  • Relevant Trade Test.
  • Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
  • TMM Licences “A” Dover.
  • Advantageous: N2 Certificate in Engineering Studies.

Experience

  • 2 – 3 years trade-specific experience in a heavy industrial, mining, plant, or TMM environment.
  • Advantageous: 1 year practical experience with earthmoving equipment.

Duties

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on the TMM production fleet to ensure equipment availability and support mining production. Make sure vehicles under your responsibility meet the mine’s code of practice for safe operation.
  • Keep the workshop and working environment clean at all times. Help maintain the workshop’s daily operations.
  • Plan and organize your workload, including spares, tools, and resources, based on maintenance and breakdown schedules. Follow safety and work procedures. Complete work orders on time and accurately, then return them to your supervisor. Carry out daily inspections and record results on work orders. Plan jobs to finish them quickly.
  • Conduct mini risk assessments and lock-out procedures in your work area. Adhere to all safety rules.
  • Perform asset care tasks as needed for maintenance or breakdowns. Provide timely updates to relevant team members. Operate and maintain mobile equipment according to codes of practice, policies, and procedures. Follow the manufacturer’s maintenance guidelines.
  • Clean and store all equipment and tools after use in the designated Storeroom. Keep your personal toolbox in good condition. Regularly inspect equipment to spot and fix defects early, preventing breakdowns, injuries, or delays. Order parts to reduce downtime from failures. Maintain equipment proactively on a schedule for reliability. Respond quickly to breakdowns, restore equipment, and report delays to the Chargehand, Foreman, or Control Room. Escalate unrepairable issues to your supervisor.
  • Promote effective teamwork and communication by interacting with team members and sharing insights on technical and safety matters during meetings.
