Position 1: Senior Data Scientist (Full Stack)

Role Overview:

The Senior Data Scientist will drive our data science programme by applying advanced quantitative methods, machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, and predictive analytics. This full-stack position encompasses the entire data lifecycle—from strategic planning and data collection through monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement—aligned with SALGA’s Digital Strategic Framework.

Candidate Profile:

We seek a professional with the following attributes:

  • Strong project management and organisational abilities
  • Proven experience supporting cross-functional teams in dynamic environments
  • Exceptional analytical skills for working with unstructured datasets
  • Expertise in cleaning and integrating multiple data sources for analytics

Key Portfolio and Performance Focus Areas:

  • Collaborate with the Chief Digital Officer and Senior Data Architect using state-of-the-art cloud-based technologies to solve complex data analysis and prediction problems
  • Identify and capitalise on new opportunities for data-driven business initiatives
  • Generalise existing solutions to address new problems and data-as-a-service verticals
  • Develop data science methods, tools, and algorithms in a collaborative team environment

Position 2: Senior Advisor: Municipal ICT Services

Role Overview:

The Senior Advisor will design and develop programmes to improve municipal digital and ICT capability maturity. This role provides expert guidance to municipalities on leading, managing, governing, and operating ICT functions in an evolving digital landscape.

Candidate Profile:

We seek a professional with the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Sound understanding of policy and legislative frameworks relevant to local government ICT
  • Knowledge of SALGA’s business operations and sustainability requirements
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Strong facilitation, consulting, report writing, and presentation skills
  • Deep understanding of digital transformation and emerging technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution
  • Expert knowledge of ICT governance, policies, processes, frameworks, and architectures
  • Strong research capabilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated with initiative
