Introduction

A position is available for a Driver. You will ensure the timely, effective, and cost-efficient transport of goods and passengers.

Job Description

Key Performance Areas

1. Pre-Trip Procedures

  • Check the vehicle using the inspection checklist and report to the Dispatch Controller.
  • Receive and sign the Trip Instruction Sheet.
  • Wear name tags at all times.
  • Collect and secure products for transport, handling blood products with care.
  • Complete the Trip Sheet, including odometer readings and log book entries.
  • Ensure enough fuel for the trip and refuel if needed, checking odometer readings.

2. Transportation of Goods

  • Follow delivery timelines and report any changes to the Dispatch Controller.
  • Drive according to SANBS rules and the National Road Traffic Act.
  • Deliver and collect goods, getting signatures on the Trip Sheet and delivery note.
  • Treat recipients professionally and promote SANBS positively.
  • Hand over the Trip Sheet and keys at the end of the trip.
  • No unauthorized goods or route changes without approval.
  • Complete the Log Book after each trip.

3. Transportation of Passengers (Not for Technical Drivers in Zones)

  • Confirm passenger details with the Dispatch Controller and get the transport request form.
  • For international airport pickups, collect parking fees in advance if needed.
  • Display the SANBS Welcome Board for airport collections.
  • Welcome passengers warmly and professionally.
  • Escort passengers to their destination if needed.
  • Request the Completed Customer Service Assessment Form.
  • No unauthorized passengers in company vehicles.
  • Complete the Log Book after the trip.

4. Administrative and Support Duties

  • Handle ad hoc tasks as required.
  • Answer calls to the transport department professionally and relay messages.
  • Clean vehicles regularly.
  • Report accidents or incidents to the Dispatch Controller and police within one hour, and get a case number.
  • For Technical Drivers in Zones: Prepare clinics and unpack hampers if no General Assistant is available.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Grade 9
  • Code C1 driver’s license and PDP

Ideal:

  • Grade 12
  • Advanced Driver Course

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Minimum 3 years driving experience
  • Fluent in English
