IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is developing a world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique deposit will use large mechanized underground mining methods with the latest technology for a “mine of the future.”

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Grade 12/NQF 4 or equivalent
  • Trade Test Certificate Section 13 or 26
  • DMR Winding Engine Drivers’ certificate of competency
  • Onsetters certificate
  • Alternative current (AC) certificate
  • Direct current (DC) certificate
  • Full certificate
  • Limited scope certificate
  • Valid Code EB (08) Driver’s license
  • Shaft and Winder Legal Training (advantageous)

Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years’ experience as an underground Winding Engine Driver
  • Experience in double drum and friction winder; engineering-related skills and licenses

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the winding engine safely to hoist people, materials, and ore up and down the shaft, following the Minerals Act
  • Ensure safe movement of personnel and materials in conveyances or skips
  • Record the condition of the winding engine daily
  • Transmit and respond to signals accurately
  • Complete the driver’s logbook, noting stoppages and reasons each day
  • Advise the Banksman and Cage Attendant on ways to simplify work during shifts
  • Check load weights against lifting capacities to avoid overloads
