Requirements and Expectations

Minimum Requirements

  • ABET Certificate.
  • Higher qualifications will be an advantage.

Experience

  • No experience is required.
  • Two or more years of experience in manual work will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of general work, including handling equipment and tools.
  • Familiarity with gardening tools and basic lawn care, such as pruning and trimming.
  • Knowledge of how to use and mix chemicals safely.
  • Understanding of basic maintenance for equipment and machines.
  • Basic knowledge of water use and resource management.
  • Awareness of health and safety rules and government laws.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability to work near rivers, dams, canals, and in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to help other teams and schemes when needed.
  • Must be punctual, productive, and reliable.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain grounds, gardens, and related areas.
  • Repair tools and structures like buildings, fences, and benches using hand and power tools.
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides to plants and lawns with sprayers or spreaders.
  • Keep sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, and other features in good condition.
  • Maintain gardens and plants through irrigation, pruning, raking, and mulching.
  • Clean work areas, including parking lots, walkways, and buildings, such as washing floors and windows.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and send major repairs to service providers.
  • Keep accurate records, like job cards and equipment logs.
  • Inspect areas and report issues like cracks, holes, or stagnant water.

Note

  • Preference will be given to candidates living in the Klipfontein Dam area in KwaZulu-Natal Province.
