End-user Support Specialist

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric or National Diploma in Computer Systems Technology or equivalent IT qualification (NQF level 6), plus MCP, MCSE, N+, A+ certifications (NQF Level 6).
  • COMPTIA A+ and N+ certifications.
  • Expertise in customer service, requirements gathering, and product analysis.
  • Experience supporting a wide range of IT products and technical infrastructure.
  • 1 to 3 years in a high-pressure IT support environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Primary Function

The End-user Support Specialist ensures IT support and executes related initiatives. This includes troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving complex program failures. The role provides on-call support after hours, on public holidays, and weekends. It also involves setting up, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining the City’s desktops, hardware, software, and peripherals. The specialist provides first-line support to all end users and manages third-party contractors for IT support.

  • Provide first-line support to end users.
  • Respond to incidents and requests in the desktop environment with quick resolutions.
  • Ensure compliance with the City’s IT security policies.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to support staff.

  • Knowledge of ITIL.
  • Broad and solid working knowledge of current IT technologies, including applications.
  • Commitment, integrity, strong work ethic, professional demeanor, and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, along with strong technical and time management skills.
  • Dedication to safe work procedures.
  • Proficiency in written English and effective communication.
  • Experience beyond the minimum, supervisory skills, and ability to maintain records and inventories in a technical office are preferred.

Core Competencies

  • Knowledge of information security to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data.
