Job Summary

Rand Water seeks a Compliance Specialist – Advisory to offer expert support to the Compliance Division. This role focuses on managing compliance risks across the organization.

Minimum Requirements

• A degree in law, audit, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in a compliance role.
• Background in compliance, legal, or audit.
• A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field is an advantage.
• Membership or eligibility for membership with the Compliance Institute of Southern Africa or a similar professional body.
• Experience in state-owned enterprise compliance is beneficial.
• Experience in the water sector is an advantage.

Primary Duties

• Design, implement, and maintain a compliance framework for Rand Water and its subsidiaries.
• Develop and manage Rand Water’s regulatory universe.
• Help create the compliance strategy.
• Interpret legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Provide ongoing compliance advice and guidance.
• Align organizational policies with current laws.
• Monitor changes in legislation.
• Engage with industry regulators on legal matters.
• Research new compliance methods to improve advisory services.
• Offer compliance guidance to the Compliance Forum.
• Work with business units to create action plans for regulatory changes and compliance gaps.
• Handle regulatory interactions with internal and external assurance providers.
• Advise Supply Chain Management Bid Committees on compliance.
• Lead efforts to resolve compliance issues.
• Spot areas of compliance risk and vulnerability.
• Identify business risks for non-compliance and create policies to manage them.
• Report on compliance to executive management and shareholders through governance structures.
• Foster a culture of compliance in Rand Water and its subsidiaries.
• Connect with the Compliance Institute of Southern Africa on updates.
• Develop and deliver training programs for compliance officers and staff.
• Align the compliance framework with institute standards.
• Create the compliance program.
• Oversee, supervise, and carry out the compliance plan.
• Manage staff, including recruitment, motivation, and performance evaluations.
• Collaborate with line managers to support their compliance duties, protect the company’s reputation, avoid legal issues, build regulator relationships, prevent misconduct, and promote awareness through campaigns and workshops.

Knowledge

• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
• Understanding of Generally Accepted Compliance Practice (GACP).
• Maturity and strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Exploration of monitoring software for compliance management.
