Job Description

RPO Recruitment’s client, a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy, is seeking an Assistant Engineer’s Representative to help deliver a 12-month labour-intensive construction (LIC) bridge project in the Eastern Cape. Accommodation will be provided, and approved travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Engineer’s Representative with supervision and contract administration for LIC bridge works.
  • Oversee daily site activities, including quality control, quantity verification, and record keeping.
  • Review drawings, method statements, and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) documentation.
  • Coordinate with inspectors, survey teams, and materials testing personnel.
  • Support stakeholder engagement and ensure compliance with LIC methods.
  • Contribute to progress reporting, certification inputs, snagging, and project close-out.

Requirements:

  • BTech/BEngTech or National Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised South African institution.
  • Labour-Intensive Construction unit standard (NQF Level 5, SAQA-accredited) qualification.
  • ECSA registration as Pr Tech Eng or Pr Techni Eng.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ post-graduate site experience, including at least one completed bridge construction project in a lead or representative role.
  • Full-time site presence for the project duration.
  • Reliable, organised, proactive, and able to work independently with strong communication and reporting skills.
