Key Performance Areas

  • Ensure effective bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, and debt management against the budget. Implement relevant acts, regulations, and policies.
  • Keep a debt control register.
  • Provide effective and efficient bookkeeping and bank reconciliation. Ensure all suspense accounts are cleared and reconciled. Make sure all suspense account balances are supported by auditable documentation.
  • Request and retrieve trial balance reports. Capture journals related to suspense.
  • Monitor clearance of salary-related suspense accounts. Capture clearance of EBT rejections. Reconcile aging of accounts monthly. Manage filing of journals related to suspense.
  • Ensure proper and efficient management of debt. Capture all types of debts. Process new debts. Clear all exceptions relating to debts on BAS daily.
  • Ensure clearing of debt suspense by capturing all debts. Capture journals for the recovery of debts. Provide effective and efficient bank reconciliation. Reconcile bank statements with trial balance daily. Capture all journals for fund requisitions. Maintain a payment register. Request trial balance daily. Maintain debt and journal registers.

Prerequisites

  • An appropriate qualification at NQF 6 or equivalent in Financial Management, Accounting, or Auditing, as recognized by SAQA.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience. Valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities).

Person Profile

  • Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations.
  • Understanding of Department of Social Development (DSD) financial policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting standards and government financial systems (e.g., BAS, PERSAL, LOGIS).
  • Skills in report writing and presentation.
  • Proficiency in using accounting and financial systems/software (e.g., Excel, BAS).
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure.
