Key Performance Areas

  • Provide clothing repair and alteration services, including fixing tears, adjusting sizes, and replacing buttons, zippers, or other hardware.
  • Maintain linen and bedding to ensure everything is in good condition.
  • Ensure all work meets high standards for durability, comfort, and safety.
  • Track sewing supplies and materials, keeping stock levels adequate and usage proper.
  • Perform regular checks and maintenance on sewing machines and tools.

Prerequisites

  • An appropriate qualification at NQF Level 4 (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.

Person Profile

  • Knowledge of stitching techniques, pattern making, fabric types, and garment construction.
  • Understanding of fabric properties and how to handle different textiles.
  • Knowledge of designing clothing for specific health needs and physical limitations.
  • Awareness of hygiene practices, safety protocols, and infection control for sewing tools and clothing maintenance.
  • Strong sewing and alteration skills.
  • Good time management, inventory management, and problem-solving skills.
