An exciting opportunity exists for a Production Manager Assistant at I&J, Waterfront. This role ensures that all training requirements and assessments are completed for Vessel Production Teams. It also involves providing accurate and timely reports to the Operations Process Manager on a monthly basis. You may need to sail with the vessels to give feedback on production needs and areas for improvement.

Key Areas of Impact:

Support and Assist Production Teams

  • Advise managers on toolbox talks, production meetings, and safety meetings. Log these on registers before boarding the vessel.
  • Ensure managers understand their tasks at sea.
  • Work with Production Managers to deliver the best quality product from the vessel.
  • Suggest improvements for production processes.
  • Supervise and motivate the production crew.
  • Check how contractors handle the product during discharge.
  • Inspect fish packing and conditions in the discharge area.
  • Update the manager when vessels are docked, including details on turnaround and any issues with crew or factory members.

Training and Development

  • Lead training sessions on production topics, such as equipment operation, quality control, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Evaluate trainees’ work, give feedback, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Keep records of completed training, track progress, and update materials as needed.

Stock Management

  • Conduct regular counts of packaging and check on-board consumables stock.
  • Book factory equipment for repairs.
  • Oversee loading of packaging and stores from start to finish until the vessel sails.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with HACCP and GMP protocols.
  • Follow all I&J policies and procedures, and report any deviations to the Operations Process Manager.
  • Assess risks in the production section on the vessel and recommend corrective actions.
  • Verify that all production crew documents and certificates are valid, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), to reduce risks.

Quality and Food Safety

  • Ensure all food safety protocols are followed by production teams.
  • Provide training and interventions for compliance.

What It Takes to Succeed

Experience

  • At least 2 years sailing as Production Manager or Assistant Production Manager.
  • At least 7 years sailing on a Fishing Vessel, preferably with bottom trawl experience.

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Pre-Sea or Seaman’s Book.
  • Diploma or Degree in Manufacturing.
  • Baarder Certification is an advantage.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience with MS Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • SAP experience with reservations and approvals.
  • Train the Trainer certification.
  • HACCP Supervisor level.
