Job Purpose:

This role involves coordinating operations and using technical knowledge of the electricity network to plan staff needs for shifts. It also includes suggesting changes to equipment, procedures, and instructions.

Key Responsibility Areas:

• Use operations control skills to help review or create short-term plans for shift staffing and work schedules.
• Guide and train staff on diagnosing and interpreting issues in electricity network control. Monitor performance and behavior.
• Monitor electricity supply and the status of high-voltage circuits at substations using evaluation techniques.
• Ensure safety and continuous supply during electrical system work or new equipment setup.
• Investigate technical issues and share information on procedures and network performance.
• Share updates on supply continuity and planned outages.
• Keep records of network control system performance and statistics. Prepare reports as needed.

Essential Requirements:

• Qualified Electrician with an apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labour, or a Trade Test Certificate recognized by the Department of Employment and Labour.
• NTC4 or NCV4 certificate in Electrical Engineering, registered with the Department of Education.
• Authorised High Voltage (HV) Network Controller, or authorised within the last 24 months.
• Accredited First Aid Certificate, or obtain one within six months of appointment.
• Valid motor vehicle driving licence.
• 4 years relevant experience in Electricity Transmission and Distribution, including at least 1 year as an Authorised High Voltage Network Controller.

Preferred Requirements:

• Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5 years relevant experience in a control room in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry.

This position reports to the Senior Manager (HV Network Control).
