Job Purpose

The role involves using technical knowledge of the electricity network to check the status of electricity supply. It includes making decisions based on load flow management during outages or high demand periods.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Monitor the electricity supply and status of outgoing circuits at substations in the high voltage range using interpretative and evaluative principles.
  • Ensure safety and continuity of supply during technical work, operations, or commissioning of new equipment on the electrical system.
  • Investigate and share information on technical applications, procedures, and performance related to the electrical network.
  • Share technical details about supply continuity and planned outages.
  • Keep records of network control system performance and statistics, and meet reporting needs.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Electrician with an apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labour, or a Trade Test Certificate recognized by the Department of Employment and Labour.
  • NTC4 or NCV4 certificate in Electrical Engineering registered with the Department of Education.
  • Current “Authorised Person” status for 11kV with no restrictions, or have held it in the past 24 months. Alternatively, authorised as a “High Voltage (HV) or Medium Voltage Network Controller” in the past 24 months.
  • Accredited First Aid Certificate, or obtain one within six months of appointment.
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution environment.

Preferred Requirements

  • Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4 years of relevant experience in a Control Room environment in the electricity transmission and distribution industry.
