Senior IT Auditor

The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) is a state institution established under section 181(1)(e) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996. It supports constitutional democracy. The AGSA’s main functions are outlined in section 188 of the Constitution and section 4 of the Public Audit Act.

Requirement Overview

Conduct audits in an effective and efficient way, following PFMA and MFMA timelines, ISA standards, and AGSA policies and procedures.

Roles & Responsibilities

Product

  • Conduct audits through three phases: Planning, Execution, and Audit Conclusion.

Plan the Audit

  • Help define the audit objectives and scope.
  • Assess risks from source documents.
  • Compile the audit plan.
  • Conduct walkthroughs with relevant role players.
  • Perform fieldwork according to policies and procedures.

Execute Tests

  • Check compliance with policies, procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Evaluate adequacy of goals.
  • Verify reliability of information.
  • Assess efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
  • Ensure safeguarding of assets.
  • Generate audit findings.
  • Submit findings to Line Manager for review and make necessary changes.
  • Update Line Manager and Senior Manager on progress or issues during the audit.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss accepted recommendations, implementation timelines, rejected recommendations, and target dates.
  • Conduct audits following internal processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Complete audits within the allocated timeframe.
  • Promote and manage sound internal controls in the Business Unit.

HR Admin

  • Improve personal skills through development plans.
  • Participate in learning and development programs.
  • Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities.
  • Stay updated on AGSA developments.
  • Take part in transformational initiatives like change management, organizational culture, CSI, and diversity.

Financial Management

  • Support the Manager in delivering high-quality, accurate, and cost-effective audits.
  • Manage projects efficiently in terms of time, cost, and quality.

Provide input into audit planning:

  • Budget requirements.
  • Organisational reporting.
  • Follow budget allocations for hours and expenses.
  • Get approval from Line Manager for unbudgeted expenses.
  • Achieve personal recoverability targets.

Ad-hoc Duties

  • Handle other projects, tasks, and assignments as required.

Skills, Experience & Education

Formal Education

  • B Degree in Auditing, Computer Science, or Informatics.

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of auditing.
  • In-depth knowledge and skills in informatics.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of Information Systems auditing experience.
  • Experience in ERP environments (such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, and PeopleSoft), cyber security, and CAATs/Data analytics is an advantage.
