Purpose of the Role
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Assistant Retail Store Manager to lead our team and help our Econofoods store succeed. The right person will have a strong history of meeting sales goals, providing great customer service, and managing store operations well. You should be able to reduce risks and stock losses while keeping the store to high standards to meet business targets.
The Assistant Store Manager will handle all daily operations of the store and guide the team to achieve and surpass business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive sales by ensuring top-notch customer service.
- Maintain high customer service standards at all times.
- Keep the store looking excellent by following company merchandising rules, promoting stock, managing inventory, and displaying products properly with correct prices.
- Help with receiving stock, conducting counts, managing expiry dates, and checking stock condition.
- Recruit, train, and manage a strong team while supporting our company’s Ho Hola Culture.
- Handle cash management, including preparing floats, daily banking, and supporting cashiers.
- Manage the team through training, coaching, and performance reviews.
- Follow all health and safety rules, and ensure hygiene, food quality, and safety standards are met.
- Review store sales data to find ways to grow and improve.
- Oversee store operations, including opening and closing, and security.
- Build positive relationships with customers, vendors, and stakeholders.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent. A tertiary qualification is a plus.
- 3-5 years of experience as a retail store manager or assistant manager, ideally in the FMCG retail industry, with team leadership.
- Proven success in meeting sales targets and providing excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of retail operations, including inventory management, merchandising, and store procedures.
- Valid driver’s license, and preferably your own vehicle.

- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Accurate with attention to detail.
