Job Description
Our client, a leading national retail group, is looking for experienced Assistant Store Managers to help run daily operations in several branches across the Midlands and North Coast. Each successful candidate will manage one key branch, with multiple positions available in the region.
Midlands branches are in retail malls in Pietermaritzburg, Howick, and Hilton. North Coast branches are in Ballito and Umdloti.
To qualify, you need 3 years of proven experience managing a team in a retail environment where you face customers directly. Your background should include leading teams that sell products to consumers in areas like food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, home care, or maintenance.
This role suits a hands-on retail manager who enjoys building and motivating teams, delivering great customer service, and ensuring smooth operations in a busy setting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Help the Store Manager meet sales, service, and profit goals.
- Manage stock control and handle bi-annual stock takes. Oversee stock flow to the sales floor, accurate ordering, replenishment, and loss prevention.
- Follow merchandising standards, including planning and setting up promotional stock and displays. Stick to labeling, pricing, and layout rules.
- Keep daily store operations running smoothly and schedule staff.
- Handle customer questions and complaints quickly to provide excellent service.
- Manage the Click & Collect process for online orders, including related queries.
- Support performance reviews, staff development plans, training, and HR tasks.
- Ensure everyone follows company policies, procedures, and health and safety rules.
Essential Requirements
- South African Citizen
- Matric certificate
- Pass an MIE check with no criminal record and clear credit rating
- Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport
- At least 3 years as a supervisor
- Experience in sales floor management, receiving, administration, and cash office
- Solid skills in stock control, expense management, and reporting
- Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills
- Great attention to detail and process adherence
- Flexible to work retail hours and travel when needed
Advantageous Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications
- Experience with Excel, SAP, Unisolv, SuccessFactors, or similar retail systems
