Assistant Bookkeeper

Purpose of the Role:
The Assistant Bookkeeper will support the Bookkeeper and Financial Manager with daily accounting tasks, reconciliations, and general financial administration. This ensures accurate and up-to-date records that follow company procedures.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Capture and process daily financial transactions and journal entries.
- Assist with debtor and creditor processing, reconciliations, and follow-ups on outstanding items.
- Support bank reconciliations and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded.
- Import and reconcile retail store bank statements and cash deposits.
- Reconcile company credit card transactions and supporting documents.
- Assist with VAT preparation and submission of supporting documents.
- Prepare and maintain general ledger schedules and help with month-end procedures.
- Support processing of intercompany invoices, payments, and credit notes.
- Assist with checking GRVs (Goods Received Vouchers) and verifying supplier documents.
- Liaise with store managers on daily stock and cash-related queries.
- Maintain an accurate filing system for financial documents, both electronic and hard copy.
- Provide administrative support to the finance team, including ad-hoc reporting and data entry.
- Assist with payroll preparation and related reconciliations when needed.
Criteria:
- Qualification in Bookkeeping or Accounting (Diploma in Accounting/Bookkeeping or equivalent).
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or finance support role.
- Sound understanding of basic accounting principles and reconciliations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (SAGE is an advantage).
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Able to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit finance team.
- Fully bilingual in English and Afrikaans.
