Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field (NQF level 7).
- 8 to 10 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in project management for large-scale infrastructure or environmental projects, and 3 years in renewable energy or environmental sustainability sectors.
- 5 years of leadership or senior management experience, with a proven record of managing complex projects, teams, and operations.
Primary Function:
- Manage and implement alternative waste treatment and waste minimization projects, focusing on waste-to-energy and resource recovery technologies. Oversee planning, execution, and management to reduce reliance on landfills and promote sustainable waste solutions for the city. Ensure projects meet the city’s performance goals and support commitments to environmental sustainability and innovation.
Key Performance Areas:
- Help develop the directorate’s strategy, projects, and implementation plans.
- Lead the sub-directorate’s project implementation and operational planning.
- Guide the sub-directorate’s financial planning and budgeting.
- Manage the sub-directorate’s demand planning process.
- Oversee performance management planning for sections.
- Develop individual learning plans for the sub-directorate.
- Manage projects to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Implement strong governance practices, including structures, systems, processes, policies, and controls to meet strategic and operational goals. Follow all laws, city rules, and best practices.
- Lead recruitment, selection, and placement to hire qualified staff for the directorate.
- Handle procurement efficiently according to supply chain processes, laws, and policies.
- Provide strong leadership to achieve directorate objectives.
- Identify project management laws, risks, and offer strategic advice.
- Handle project reporting and disclosure.
- Manage human resources for the sections effectively.
- Control assets for the directorate.
- Implement good governance and risk management systems.
- Build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate city activities on environment, social, and governance issues.
- Manage administrative and reporting needs for the directorate and individual performance.

- Deep knowledge of biogas and incineration technologies, plus regulations for waste-to-energy projects.
