Student Internship Opportunity: Registry & Archiving
The City of Johannesburg is offering an exciting internship program to help students gain practical work experience. This program is designed to meet the growing need from universities and colleges, where students must complete on-the-job training to finish their qualifications or build skills after graduation. The City is dedicated to providing real-world training opportunities for young people in our communities.
This internship is open to youth living in Johannesburg who meet the requirements and have not previously joined a similar program, unless it was unrelated to their studies. The position is available for qualifying students from the Johannesburg area and will last no longer than 18 months.

Remuneration: R3,500.00 per month (basic salary, no benefits) for students currently enrolled in studies

Minimum Requirements
- Matric/Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4)
- Currently studying towards a diploma or certificate
- Previous training or experience in a related field is an advantage
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office applications
- Basic understanding of the public sector would be beneficial
- Only residents of the City of Johannesburg will be considered
Primary Function
This role involves providing administrative support to ensure effective document management and information systems. You will help manage the flow of correspondence, retrieve and file documents, and dispose of old files according to relevant guidelines, standards, and laws.
Key Learning Areas
During the internship, you will gain hands-on experience in the following areas:
- Providing effective administrative support to the department for smooth document and information systems
- Classifying, registering, scanning, and saving all records and documents into electronic systems
- Handling filing, retrieval, and disposal of obsolete documents, records, and files
- Assisting with general office administration tasks
- Managing documents and archiving processes
- Maintaining the registry of all records and documents
Leading Competencies
- Strong computer skills, especially in MS Word and Excel
- Good interpersonal and communication abilities
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Attention to detail and a focus on accuracy
- Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
Core Competencies
- Knowledge of City of Johannesburg regulations, as well as the National Archiving Act (NAA)
