Job Title: Tutor/Training Officer (Medical) Academy
Department: Public Safety: Emergency Management Services (EMS)

Remuneration: R35 053.67 per month (basic salary, excluding benefits)

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12/Matric Certificate or higher qualification;
- Diploma in Emergency Medical Care or a higher relevant qualification;
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA);
- Valid Driver’s License (Code B) and a valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit);
- No criminal record;
- At least 6 years of operational experience in Emergency Medical Services (EMS), including a minimum of 2 years as a paramedic.
Primary Function
The main role of this position is to ensure the protection of people and property during emergencies. This involves providing both theoretical and practical training to learners and firefighters. You will conduct assessments to make sure they have the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to handle any emergency effectively. Training must be delivered safely and reliably, with proper coordination of resources and facilities to achieve the best outcomes. In case of an emergency, the team should be prepared to respond quickly and efficiently to save lives and protect property.
Key Performance Areas
- Manage resources effectively;
- Promote compliance with departmental policies and procedures;
- Supervise the use and maintenance of station and academy resources;
- Plan, prepare, and respond to emergency incidents at any time and location as needed;
- Lead and oversee continuous Professional Development Programs;
- Help develop training courses and prepare them for delivery;
- Facilitate the training process, which includes classroom lectures, workplace experience, in-service practical training, and hospital placements;
- Be able to provide emergency medical assistance when required;
- Communicate health promotion messages effectively using suitable techniques and technology for various individuals, groups, and communities;
- Identify and address ethical issues and conflicts of interest.
Leading Competencies
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office applications.
Core Competencies
- Knowledge of HPCSA rules and regulations, the National Health Act 61 of 2003 (Emergency Medical Services Regulations), and the Health Professions Act 58 of 1974;
- Extensive understanding of standards, protocols, and procedures from bodies such as SAESI, HPCSA, ETQA, QCTO, Higher Education Institutions, LGSETA, and other relevant accreditation organizations. Incorporate these into training materials where appropriate;
- Working or basic knowledge of the Fire Brigades Service Act.
