Job Summary
Unitrans is looking for experienced Professional Bus Drivers. You will drive a bus to transport passengers on scheduled routes. You will manage lighting, heating, and ventilation for passenger comfort. You must follow speed limits, watch traffic and signals, and ensure safe and on-time arrivals. You need the right license and a PrDP.
This is a restricted commercial contract not supported by government funding.
Your role helps keep passengers safe while following company rules and traffic laws. You must master defensive driving and prevent accidents.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 qualification, job-specific training, and driver’s licenses: CE – G, CE – PG, and C – G.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow all WSWPs procedures in your daily activities.
- Read, understand, and accept the company code of conduct.
- Know and follow Unitrans Passenger rules and regulations.
- Read and understand the driver’s manual.
- Report any near misses, incidents, or property damage, even if you were not involved.
- Read and understand HST regulations and policies.
- Avoid incidents and accidents while driving.
- Prioritize safety and follow safe habits.
- Report any incidents or issues to management right away.
- Know all written procedures for your tasks.
- Inspect the bus for any problems or faults before driving.
- Record any issues in the checklist and report to your supervisor.
- Do not start the trip if there are major issues until they are fixed.
- Join daily safety sessions with supervisors and HST at Unitrans parks and Vulcan Site.
- Take part in training programs.
- Register passengers for each trip.
- Ensure the vehicle is refueled and clean at all times.
- Record and report all events, incidents, or accidents during trips to your supervisor and the relevant hotline.
- Follow all traffic laws.
- Adhere to the customer’s SMS policy.
- Complete log books accurately.
- Keep track of activities and update hours in the log book.
- Maintain a positive attitude with customers.
- Do not change routes on your own or due to others’ suggestions.
- Stop only at company-approved places, unless told otherwise by a superior.
- Stick to authorized routes.
- Respect all signs and speed limits.
- Always remove keys from the ignition when leaving the vehicle.
- You are responsible for the ignition key while in your possession.
- Start the vehicle from inside the cabin.
- Use two wheel chocks when parking.
- Wear seat belts for yourself and all passengers.
- Drive only with a valid license and RAC2 card.
- Take care of vehicles and use them properly.
- Report any vehicle damage to the manager and supervisor.
- Meet collection times on the job card.
- Avoid overtaking other Unitrans vehicles unless necessary due to mechanical issues and authorized.
- Do not stop after dropping off passengers at the end of the trip.
