Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12, Diploma or Degree in Finance.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Valid Code B (08) driver’s license.

Knowledge

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to calculate and reconcile customer accounts effectively.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good time management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Phone customers using the municipality’s technology systems (SAMRAS, GEO, and Revenue Alert system).
  • Check and process outstanding accounts by comparing and updating data on the computer.
  • Process reminders and final notices to encourage arrear payments.
  • Monitor debt payment arrangements through consultation and negotiation with debtors.
  • Submit information for staff account deductions in accordance with the Systems Act.
  • Coordinate the implementation of disconnections.
  • Hand over unpaid accounts to attorneys for collections in compliance with regulations.
  • Liaise with attorneys on handed-over accounts.
  • Compile lists of write-offs for irrecoverable debts and submit for further processing.
  • Help debtors fill in indigent forms.
  • Prepare and post journals to ensure the accuracy of debtor accounts.
  • Provide general administration tasks and duties.
  • Reference source documentation.
