About Us:

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is committed to protecting South Africa’s natural resources through sustainable environmental management, in alignment with Section 24 of the Constitution.

Position Requirements:

  • 4-year degree (NQF8) in Environmental Management, Natural Sciences, Natural Resource Economics, or equivalent qualification
  • 6+ years experience in relevant field post-qualification
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation (NEMA, NEMBA, CITES) and government processes
  • Proficiency in policy development, financial procedures, and report writing
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to work independently and in teams

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support growth of wildlife sector MSMEs through strategic partnerships
  • Conduct scientific/economic research and coordinate sector reporting
  • Develop and implement Biodiversity Economy monitoring systems
  • Facilitate licensing support and wildlife conservation initiatives
  • Manage progress tracking of implementation plans and strategies

  • Strategic planning and analytical capabilities
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and stakeholder management
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines
