Assistant Director: Woodland and Indigenous Forest Management

Location: Eastern Cape

Salary: R582,444 per annum

Employment Type: Full-Time

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Diploma (NQF6) in Forestry/Nature Conservation/Environmental Science or equivalent
  • 3 years’ experience in indigenous forestry or national/provincial parks management
  • Working knowledge of National Forest Act, National Veld and Forest Fire Act, and NEMA legislation
  • Understanding of Public Finance Management Act and Treasury Regulations
  • Proficiency in GIS techniques and environmental impact assessments
  • Valid driver’s license with willingness to travel

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee sustainable management of woodland and indigenous forests
  • Process license applications for forest resource use under National Forest Act
  • Implement biodiversity conservation programs and habitat rehabilitation
  • Monitor compliance with national environmental frameworks and policies
  • Manage workforce safety protocols and EPWP employment opportunities
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement and community capacity-building initiatives

Essential Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Project management and team leadership experience
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Computer literacy in office productivity software
