Deputy Director: State Forest Management (2 Positions)

SALARY: R1,059,105 per annum (All-inclusive package)
LOCATION: Nelspruit, Limpopo/Mpumalanga

About the Role

Join the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment in fulfilling South Africa’s constitutional mandate to protect our environment and natural resources. We seek experienced professionals to lead sustainable forest management initiatives.

Key Requirements

  • National Diploma (NQ6) in Forestry, Developmental Studies or related field
  • 5+ years’ commercial forestry experience (3 years at Assistant Director/junior management level)
  • Deep understanding of key legislation:
    • National Forests Act (84/1998)
    • National Veld and Forest Fire Act (101/1998)
    • NEMA & NEMBA regulations
  • Valid driver’s license with travel readiness

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) implementation and improvement
  • Develop annual operational plans for timber rehabilitation
  • Maintain biological asset registers through stock enumeration
  • Implement fire management strategies and protection plans
  • Oversee revenue collection aligned with financial policies
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement and provincial development forums
