Position: Database Administrator: Oracle

Location: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal

Position Purpose

• Provide expert support for Transnet’s Terminal Operating System (TOS) and database environment.
• Ensure smooth operation, maintain database performance, integrity, and security in a 24/7 environment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient database solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Oracle databases for optimal performance and security.
• Manage database installations, configurations, and high-availability solutions.
• Develop and enforce backup, recovery, and security strategies to meet business objectives.
• Monitor and optimize database performance, resolve issues, and ensure data integrity.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for database processes and procedures.
• Participate in project planning and provide technical expertise for database-related tasks.

Qualifications and Experience

• Relevant qualification in Information Technology or Computer Science (NQF 6/7).
• Minimum 6 years of experience in Oracle Server Database Administration.
• Proven track record in managing Oracle databases, including high availability.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
• Oracle Server certifications are advantageous.
• Leadership development experience is a plus.

Competencies

• Strong understanding of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS).
• Knowledge of Oracle Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery options.
• Proficiency in performance tuning and optimization.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage change effectively and work independently.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
