DEPUTY CITY MANAGER: CITY DEVELOPMENT

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 8) in Building Sciences/Architecture/Town Planning/Development Studies
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • 7-10 years’ experience (Minimum 2 years at Senior Management level)
  • Municipal Financial Management Programme certification (or willingness to complete within 18 months)

Preferred Competencies

  • Professional Planner registration (Planning Professions Act, 2002)
  • Project Management certification
  • 10+ years local government experience

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic development planning aligned with municipal objectives
  • Oversee urban/rural planning and economic development initiatives
  • Manage departmental budgets and IDP implementation
  • Provide expert guidance on spatial planning and public transport systems
  • Ensure compliance with municipal legislation and policies

Technical Knowledge Requirements

  • National & local government regulations
  • Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
  • Supply Chain Management frameworks
  • Performance management systems
