Position Purpose

Manage, supervise, and deliver dental services on the Phelophepa train and through outreach programs in rural South African communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the dental clinic professionally and ethically.
• Coordinate with dental institutions to ensure student placements at various stations.
• Liaise with sponsors like Colgate Palmolive and other dental companies.
• Manage needle stick injuries and report incidents to relevant institutions.
• Ensure compliance with infection control and occupational exposure policies.
• Update dental clinic policies and protocols as needed.
• Perform surgical procedures, diagnostics, and referrals for oral pathology.
• Coordinate medical waste disposal with the infection control nurse.
• Supervise 8 dental students and provide clinical guidance.
• Communicate with laboratories, NHLS, and universities regarding incidents.
• Guide the Resident Dentist, Oral Hygienist, and Infection Control Nurse.
• Order consumables efficiently via the Transnet system.
• Organize school outreach programs with the Oral Hygienist.
• Submit analytical feedback reports to Transnet Foundation.
• Audit and compile daily statistics and progress reports.

Qualifications and Experience

• BDS, BChD degree or equivalent qualification.
• Current registration with the HPCSA as a Dentist.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Dentist.
• 2 years of client service experience.
